Granola

An AI notepad for meetings — it listens, you jot, and it merges both into clean, shareable notes.

Paid only

What it does

Granola is a Mac-first meeting notetaker that transcribes your calls and combines the transcript with your own typed notes into a polished summary. It works across video platforms without a clunky meeting bot. There's a limited free trial, after which it becomes a paid subscription. It's popular with people who run a lot of meetings and want structured follow-ups automatically.

Best for, in an NCW context

  • Educators: capture IEP-team or parent meetings, then review and edit the AI summary before sharing (two-eyes rule).
  • SMB owners: turn a client call into an action list and a follow-up email draft.
  • Community leaders: keep clean, searchable minutes from board and committee meetings.

Many of the tools we showcase will recognize the code for additional credits or trial extensions when entered in the promo code box. Always test the code — some tools rotate their promotional offers, but ours work most consistently for AI Expo attendees.

Free, web-only alternative

For a free, browser-only notetaker, Otter.ai’s free tier or Fireflies.ai capture and summarize meetings with no desktop install. For sensitive meetings, take notes by hand and summarize the redacted text in a free chat tool.

The Data Cost of “Free”

Remember: when a tool is free, you’re often paying with your data.

Free AI tools generally train on your prompts, your uploads, your edits, and your usage patterns. That’s the trade. Before pasting in customer info, student records, IEP drafts, or anything else you wouldn’t email to a stranger — flip to a paid tier (which usually offers a “do not train on my data” toggle), use the tool’s enterprise tenant if your org has one, or use a free tier with non-sensitive content only.

The AiGovOps 3 Rules apply here

  • Never paste private data into a free tool
  • Two-eyes rule on outputs
  • Keep the receipts
