Replit
A full coding environment in your browser with an AI Agent that can build apps for you, from idea to deploy.
What it does
Replit is a browser-based coding platform where you can write, run, and host software without installing anything. Its AI Agent can build entire apps from a description, while still letting you (or a developer) edit the code. There's a free tier to learn and experiment, with paid plans (and Lenny's bundle) for more Agent power and hosting. It's both a learning tool and a real deployment platform.
Best for, in an NCW context
- Educators: teach coding in the browser with nothing to install on school Chromebooks.
- SMB owners: build and host a small internal app, with the option to bring in a developer later.
- Community leaders: prototype a data dashboard for your program's metrics.
How to install & use it
The web link always works — it’s the universal way in. Native apps are optional.

Many of the tools we showcase will recognize the code for additional credits or trial extensions when entered in the promo code box. Always test the code — some tools rotate their promotional offers, but ours work most consistently for AI Expo attendees.
Free, web-only alternative
Replit’s free Starter tier already runs entirely in the browser. For free hosting of simple sites, GitHub Pages and the free tiers of v0.app are no-install options.
The Data Cost of “Free”
Remember: when a tool is free, you’re often paying with your data.
Free AI tools generally train on your prompts, your uploads, your edits, and your usage patterns. That’s the trade. Before pasting in customer info, student records, IEP drafts, or anything else you wouldn’t email to a stranger — flip to a paid tier (which usually offers a “do not train on my data” toggle), use the tool’s enterprise tenant if your org has one, or use a free tier with non-sensitive content only.
The AiGovOps 3 Rules apply here
- Never paste private data into a free tool
- Two-eyes rule on outputs
- Keep the receipts
